Bo Shaffer
was a R.O.T.C. Scholarship Cadet and a member of The Pershing Rifles. He served
as a 2nd Lt.in TC (Transportation Corps) and after attending Ranger School,
was Honorably Discharged during the early '70's. He likes to keep up the skills
that he learned in the Army, as they have become part of his Life's Philosophy,
by spending time in the mountains every hunting season.
Bo wasChairman of the County Libertarian Party for five years and worked with the Clerks office to ensure fair elections. He was appointed to a special Task Force to oversee selection of new voting machines in 2004.
Bo ran for State Senate District 17 in 2006 and Boulder county Sheriff in 2003 and 2007. He has seen several facets of county Government from the inside as well as out.
Bo knows County Government.
Bo helped to keep
his leadership skills in shape by being Cubmaster of Pack 64. At times, leading
a squad of recruits is a piece of cake compared to controling a pack of Cubs.....;-)
Bo enjoyed the time spent teaching the boys how to be young men, and learning
all about how kids interact with each other and adults. That's Bo's son, Morgan
in the middle.
After graduating several of the boys into Boy Scouts, Bo followed
and became Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 66. Here they are at a recent Court
of Honor Ceremony.
Bo is a family
man. At his 50th Birthday Party, a few years back, Bo had almost as much fun
dancing with his daughter, Brenna, as he did with his wife, Betsy. When he turned
50, Bo's comment was...." I'm half way there."
The first 50 years have been spent doing so many different things, the kids often call Dad The Everything Guy. From Second Cook and First Roughneck on a Gulf Oil Rig...... to participating in early research projects on SIV, a precursor to HIV.....to being an EMT and Night Security at CHEC Health Center, Bo has hands on experience with everyday problems and those that require out of the box thinking
Bo did his undergraduate work at UC Davis in California, where he worked part time as a surgical assistant in the Med School while working on his BS degree
. After a short
sabbatical, Bo moved to Boulder to attend CU. Here, he worked in Porter Lab
and worked with the Giant JEOL 1 MV electron Microscope, one of only six in
the world at the time. Bo worked his way through Graduate School, earning his
Masters in Environmental Biology, and through hard work and diligence learned
the secret of relaxing.......once and a while you have to set back and let it
all out.
From the
early days of running his own Environmental Construction company, Bo Shaffer
has been no stranger to long hours and hard work.12 hour days, six days a week
were de rigeur in his family growing up and Bo has continued to keep up the
pace, often burning the midnight oil on some emergency call or important reports
to be rewritten and filed. Bo knows the value of hard work, building up his
company from a back door enterprise....
....into a 5 acre research and production facility, with workshops, laboratories and greenhouses. Delta Technogroup Inc is parent company to WizBalm, Custom Cactus and Delta Tech Planetary Ecologists.
