Policy
Marijuana has never directly killed anyone. It is a medicinal
plant that when used wisely, has remarkable powers of healing and pain relief.
To class it with other drugs with more potential for abuse
and damage (like cocaine and heroin) does a great dis-service to the Holistic
Herbal Medicine concept in general and the Medicinal Marijuana movement in particular.
Making it illegal and causing the prices to be artificially
high and therefore worth committing larger crimes for, is criminal itself. How
much manpower and precious resources have been used up to make criminals out
of, persecute and incarcerate people who just wish to enjoy one of God's given
plants?
Fortunately, we live in a state that recognizes that it is
ridiculous to make people suffer when pain relief is available. Medical Marijuana
is recognized as giving some relief in many different areas of pain management
and Cancer treatments. There are other afflictions and maladies than may benefit
from Cannabis, many of which are still waiting to be discovered, due to the
bias in Federally funded research. Recent independent, yet peer reviewed research
has indicated that smoking cannabis not only does NOT seem to cause lung cancer,
it could possibly even prevent it.
